Why Convert CSV Delimiters?
Different software and regions use different CSV separators. European systems often use semicolons because commas are used as decimal separators, while US and international standards typically use commas. Our free delimiter converter lets you instantly switch between formats without losing data or breaking your file structure.
Supported Delimiter Types
We support all major CSV delimiters including comma (,), semicolon (;), tab (\t), and pipe (|). The tool automatically detects your current delimiter and lets you convert to any other format. All processing happens in your browser — your data never leaves your device.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my CSV use semicolons instead of commas?
In many European countries, the comma is used as a decimal separator (e.g. 1.234,56), so CSV files exported from software like Excel use semicolons as the field delimiter instead. Our converter lets you switch between any delimiter instantly.
Will converting the delimiter break my data?
No. Values that contain the new delimiter character are automatically wrapped in double-quotes to preserve data integrity. For example, converting to comma and the value is "hello, world" — it becomes "\"hello, world\"".
Can I convert tab-separated (TSV) files to CSV?
Yes. Upload your TSV file, select Tab as the source delimiter (it is auto-detected), then choose Comma as the target. The resulting file will be a standard comma-separated CSV.
